The Mulund police on Monday arrested an alleged phone snatcher who had fled after a snatching a phone.

Police said that a complainant had informed authorities that the watchmen of his residence had assaulted him before snatching his phone and fleeing the scene. Acting promptly, the police registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the matter.

Upon investigation, police identified the accused and initiated efforts to track him down. Despite the accused`s attempts to evade capture by relocating to Kolkata, police efforts ultimately led to his apprehension.

“The accused, who refrained from using a phone directly, resorted to contacting his family members through alternate means. Through extensive surveillance and tracking, we located him in Lokhandwala and made the arrest,” stated a police official involved in the operation.

During interrogation, it was discovered that the accused had been tipped off about the police pursuit by his mother, prompting him to frequently change his whereabouts to avoid capture.

He has been identified as Maman Biswal (28) and has been charged under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
