This is the first medal for Ukraine’s national team at Euro-2023 and the first gold medal won by a Ukrainian athlete in the last six years at the European Judo Championship among youth. The last time this was achieved was in 2017 by Vasylyna Kyrychenko.

In total, 18 athletes went to Potsdam as part of the national team. On the first day of the tournament, there were competitions in seven weight categories: four among women, three more for men.
