Thane civic body announces 50 per cent water reduction

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Tuesday announced a 50 per cent water reduction in the Thane area due to the sudden fire that broke out at a water pumping station in the Pise region of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) earlier on Monday evening.

The Thane civic body said that till further notice, 50 per cent water reduction has been implemented in Thane. “Due to the fire at a water pumping station in the Pise region, the water supply to Mumbai has been reduced. Therefore, the BMC has implemented a 50 per cent reduction in water supply. From Monday (February 26) till further notice, 50 per cent water reduction has been implemented in Thane,” the TMC said.

The major affected areas which will face 50 per cent water reduction are Louiswadi Division – (Hajuri, Louiswadi, Sainath Nagar, Kajuwadi, Ramchandra No. 1, Raghunath Nagar, Ambika Nagar), Kopri Division – (Kopri, Dhobighat, Kanhaiya Nagar Watershed Area, Anandnagar), Naupada Division – (Gavdevi Watershed, Tekdi Bungalow area).

On Monday evening, a massive fire broke out at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation`s (BMC) Pise Water Pumping Station, leading to a significant impact on water supply across several parts of Mumbai.

According to civic officials, the incident impacted the water supply in the eastern part of the suburbs, as well as the water supply from the Golanji, Fosbery, Raoli, and Bhandarwada reservoirs in the city.

Additionally, the water supply pressure in the western suburbs and other parts of Mumbai may also be affected, said the officials.

As per the civic officials, the BMC administration urged citizens to cooperate and utilize water resources judiciously since the prompt cooperation of residents is essential to mitigate the impact of the disruption and ensure that essential water services can be restored as swiftly as possible.

Meanwhile, the Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday said the city`s water supply has been partially restored as 14 out of 20 pumps have been made operational at the Pise pumping station, where a fire broke out.
