The Shiv Sena (UBT) party, through its mouthpiece `Saamana,` has questioned the legitimacy of Bangladesh election results which was announced on Sunday, claiming that viewing the election results as a triumph of truth would be an insult to the people of Bangladesh.
The party raised reservations about the legitimacy of the election results, highlighting key aspects eroding its credibility, stated a report in ANI.
According to the report, Shiv Sena (UBT) questioning Bangladesh election results` legitimacy stated that the largest Opposition Party, the BNP and 15 other political parties had called for a boycott of the polls. It further noted that a sizable 60 per cent of voters abstained from voting, undermining the election`s integrity.
Sena (UBT) questioning the legitimacy of Bangladesh election results in `Saamana` wrote, “This cannot be called a `victory of truth`. How can you call an election impartial if the main opposition party, BNP, along with 15 other political parties, have boycotted and 60 per cent of the voters have turned their backs on voting? Can the results of this election be considered reliable? Keeping the results of the general election within the ambit of democracy would be an insult to the people of Bangladesh. Only 40 per cent of the voters have shown support for Sheikh Hasina`s government.”
Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh`s Prime Minister, won her fourth consecutive term in a contentious election in which her Awami League party won more than half of the parliamentary seats, despite an opposition boycott, the ANI report stated and further added that the Awami League won five constituencies despite a boycott by the BNP and 15 other parties.
Following her victory, Hasina reaffirmed her commitment to serving the Bangladeshi people, acknowledging the duty placed on her by the folks who have constantly backed her.
Sheikh Hasina won the Gopalganj-3 constituency by a landslide, marking her ninth term in parliament. In Sunday`s elections, her party won 223 seats and formed a government. Hasina`s nearest challenger, Md Atiqur Rahman, received 6,999 votes, while another contender, Mahabur Mollah, received 425. This is Sheikh Hasina`s fifth term and her fourth straight term in office, the ANI report added.
