NEW DELHI: BJP will hold meetings of its national office bearers and national executives in the national capital on Monday and Tuesday. Other than discussing strategies for the assembly elections this year in several states, there is a possibility that the party will endorse an extension of tenure for party national president J P Nadda.
PM Narendra Modi will reach the venue for the executive meeting after taking part in a brief roadshow – from Sardar Patel Chowk on Ashoka Road to the NDMC Convention Centre – that will celebrate the party’s win in Gujarat assembly polls.
Nadda, whose three-year term as BJP national president ends this month, is likely to lead the party till the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are over. Party sources have confirmed that there is consensus amongs BJP’s parliamentary board members about Nadda’s extension, which is likely to get the executive committee’s endorsement at the meeting.
At a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, party general secretary Vinod Tawde said several important issues facing the country will be discussed at the meeting. There will be discussions on political and economic resolutions, he said.
Underlining that the meeting is being held at an “important juncture”, Tawde said, “Elaborate discussions will be held on the upcoming assembly elections in states, BJP’s ‘pravas yojana’ for weak Lok Sabha seats, and strengthening booth-level teams.”
BJP’s former Bihar VP back in Nitish camp
Two weeks after quitting BJP, its former Bihar vice-president and ex-MLA Rajib Ranjan returned on Sunday to JD(U) where he received a warm reception followed by an equally warm shawl from CM Nitish Kumar a little later, reports Madan Kumar. Rajib, accompanied by around 800 supporters, praised Nitish for allowing him to rejoin the “JD(U) family” at an event that party national president Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh described as a “homecoming”. Rajib, who represented Nalanda’s Islampur in the assembly from 2010 to 2015, had quit JD(U) along with former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi. Later, Rajib joined BJP and became media in-charge. Rajib walked out of BJP on December 30 last year.
