Operation Chakra: CBI cracks down on cybercriminals, raids 105 locations across India | India News


NEW DELHI: In a massive operation against cybercriminals involved in financial crimes, the CBI on Tuesday carried out searches at 105 locations across multiple states.
Under ‘Operation Chakra’, the CBI along with different state/UT police seized a “huge amount of digital evidence, Rs 1.5 crore in cash and 1.5kg of gold.
The investigation agency said the raids were conducted based on inputs from Interpol, FBI and police forces of other countries.
A total of 87 locations were searched by the CBI and 18 locations were searched by the state and UT police. Over 300 suspects are under the scanner.
According to initial information, four locations in Andaman and Nicobar islands, five in Delhi, three in Chandigarh, and two each in Punjab, Karanataka and Assam among others are being searched under the operation.

Two call centres in Pune and Ahmedabad that were targeting gullible American citizens have been busted, they said.
The CBI has informed America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) about the action.
From one of the locations searched in Rajasthan, the CBI has seized Rs 1.5 crore in cash and 1.5 kg of gold.
Russian hacker
Earlier in the day, the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi sent a Russian national to CBI custody for two days. He was arrested on Monday on his arrival from Kazakhstan based on a Lookout Circular issued by the CBI in the software tampering case of JEE Mains-2021.

According to the CBI, during the investigation, it came to light that some foreign nationals were involved in compromising many online examinations including JEE (Mains) colluding with other accused in the instant case.
The role of one Russian national was revealed who had allegedly tampered with the Leon software (the platform on which the JEE (Main)-2021 examination was conducted) and that he helped other accused in hacking the computer systems of suspect candidates during the examination.
