Police have registered a case against a Navi Mumbai shop owner for alleged safety lapses after a 38-year-old man suffered burn injuries while doing welding work at the outlet in Maharashtra`s Navi Mumbai township, an official said, reported news agency PTI.

The victim was working at the welding shop in Turbhe area on Tuesday evening when he got an electric shock, resulting in burn injuries on his hands, legs and other body parts, the official from Turbhe police station said, reported PTI.

Preliminary investigations revealed lapses in safety protocol at the workplace. The victim was not provided personal protective equipment and other essential safety gear, as per the FIR, reported PTI.

After a complaint by the victim, the police on Wednesday registered a case against the Navi Mumbai shop owner under section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said, reported PTI.

In another case, the Navi Mumbai police have registered a murder case against a 27-year-old man in connection with the discovery of a body from the water tank of a dilapidated building recently, an official said, reported PTI.

Uran resident Sayarali Jalil Sheikh was booked on Wednesday under IPC section 302 on the complaint of the brother of victim Imdadul Pachu Sheikh (35), he said, reported PTI.

Citing the FIR, the official said that a friend of the accused had sought refuge at the victim`s place for a brief respite. Sayarali was apparently furious when Imadul asked his friend to leave his room.

Between December 16 and December 21 last year, Sayarali allegedly fatally attacked Imadul and hid the body in an empty water tank of a dilapidated building at Chirle near Uran, reported PTI.

The police initially registered an accidental death report, but upgraded it to a murder investigation following the autopsy report and a complaint by Imadul`s brother, the official said, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, an FIR was registered against a 22-year-old man from Navi Mumbai for allegedly raping and impregnating his teenage “wife” who delivered a baby, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

No arrest has been made so far in connection with the incident which occurred between November 2021 and February 2023.

Based on a complaint lodged by the parents of the victim, police booked the man for rape under the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Prevention of Child Marriage Act, the official added, reported PTI.
