Navi Mumbai Police have booked a 29-year-old man for reportedly marrying a 12-year-old girl, repeatedly raping her and getting her pregnant, an official told PTI on Friday.

According to the report, the child marriage happened about six months ago. Child marriage, in India, is a punishable offence with rigorous imprisonment and the accused shall be liable to pay a fine.

The report added that the man and the girl were both from the Satara district and that the accused repeatedly raped her and impregnated her. The report added that a local physician found out the minor was four months pregnant during a survey and then alerted the police.

The report added that the station house officer of Khandeshwar police station said that a case has been filed against the man under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

In another case from Mumbai`s Malad, a doctor was booked for abetting a minor`s suicide and suspected of rape. An official stated on Thursday that police have opened a case against a doctor for suspected rape and aiding and abetting suicide about the death of a teenage girl whose body was discovered at his clinic in the Malad East area, stated a report in PTI.

According to the report, the official said that the girl ended her life on December 28 in the clinic where the girl worked as a compounder. Reportedly, her body was later found in the clinic, the cops told PTI and the Kurar Police responded quickly to the notification. The girl`s body was taken to a government-run hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the official said the deceased`s mother said her daughter did not die by suicide and that she had been complaining about the doctor`s behaviour. Based on her complaint, the cops filed an offence against the doctor under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act and Indian Penal Code sections  306 (abetment of suicide) and 376 (punishment for rape). The probe is underway, the report added.
