Mumbai man held for raping 24-year-old woman on pretext of offering job

A Mumbai man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman on the pretext of offering a job to her, police said on Saturday. The accused Mumbai man has been identified as Joseph James, aged 50. According to an ANI report, the incident took place under the Worli police station in the city. 

The Worli Police officials told ANI that the woman, who is a resident of Thane, was seeking a job and had sought help from one of her male friends. Reportedly, the woman`s friend gave her the mobile number of a person named Joseph and advised her to contact him. 

The report further stated that the friend called the 24-year-old woman and informed her that the Mumbai man wanted to meet her in Khar on Thursday evening. The woman immediately took a taxi to Khar where she was joined by her friend and Joseph. 

Reportedly, the trio later went to a hotel and drank alcohol before heading for their homes around midnight. Furthermore, the 24-year-old woman said when she was on her way to Khar station, the accused offered her a lift to the station. However, instead of taking her to the station, he said she should sleep in his car saying that no trains would be available. 

The report further quoted the 24-year-old woman saying that around 3 am, when she was sleeping in his car, Joseph molested her and when she protested, the Mumbai man forcibly removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her. 

The woman told the police that Joseph threatened her and warned her against talking about the incident. However, she informed her lawyer friend about the incident who prompted the 24-year-old woman to file a complaint after which she reached the nearest police station and filed a complaint. 

Worli police investigated the victim`s allegation and apprehended the offenders.

Maharashtra Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Husband with Axe

In another incident, Palghar police have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly killing her husband with an axe while he was asleep at home in Wada taluka, Palghar district, Maharashtra, an official said on Saturday. The incident occurred on May 8, with the victim identified as 26-year-old Ajay Raghunath Bochal.

“After the body was found, his wife Anita told the police that an unidentified person had attacked him during the night. The police registered a case of murder and formed teams to nab the suspects,” said Inspector Datta Kindre of Wada police station.
