Mumbai: Fire breaks out at corporate park in Mulund, rescue operation underway

A fire broke out in a six-storey corporate park in Mulund on Tuesday morning, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to BMC, some people are stranded on various floors of the smoke-filled building due to the fire at the corporate park in Mulund, which started around 9.26 am, and efforts are on to rescue them.

Around 40 to 50 people have been so far rescued from the building, the BMC said.

The civic body said that the fire is confined to the sixth floor of the building `Avior Corporate Park` on LBS Road and there are no reports of any injury to anyone so far.

At least four fire engines and other vehicles have reached the spot and firefighting has begun, the civic body said.

Personnel from the Mumbai police, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other agencies have been mobilised at the corporate park in Mulund, the civic body added. More details are awaited.

Earlier, a fire broke out in a high-rise in Mumbai`s Antop Hill area on Friday night. According to officials, the fire was reported around 11 pm. There have been no reported injuries or casualties resulting from the incident, the officials confirmed. In a later update, the officials said that the fire was extinguished around 12.30 am.

The fire began in the Dosti Ambrosia building located in Antop Hill, stated an official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB).

Smoke was detected on floor 26 of the building which has a total of 38 floors above ground level. The MFB declared this a Level-1 emergency around 11.23 pm, officials added.  They also said that the fire was confined to electric wiring, electric installations, wooden furniture and household articles in the room on 26th floor. 

Smoke was detected on the 26th floor of the building, which boasts a total of thirty-eight floors above ground level. The MFB swiftly responded by declaring a Level-1 emergency at 11:23 PM, the official disclosed. 

Two big hose lines and one hose reel line of fixed firefighting system of the building were in operation, the MFB officials said. 

In another incident, a fire broke out at a makeshift shed housing labourers near a bridge repair site in Thane on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, civic officials said, reported news agency PTI.

At least 25 construction workers were fast asleep at the spot when the fire started. All of them moved out safely, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, reported PTI.

The shed had been set up by the contractor carrying out the repairs of the Saket bridge in Thane West and was being used to house labourers and store materials like thinner and polymer chemicals, he said.

After being alerted about the incident, which started a few minutes past midnight, firefighters and civic rescuers rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire in an hour. The exact cause of the fire at the bridge repair site in Thane is yet to be determined, he added, reported PTI.
