Mumbai crime branch arrests 3 for selling drugs, seizes 2 vehicles with ganja

The Mumbai Crime Branch`s Unit 5 arrested three individuals involved in transporting drugs from other states to Mumbai for distribution, reported news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch seized two vehicles filled with ganja and about 374 kg of ganja drugs of value Rs 1.12 crore in the international market was recovered from both, reported ANI.

“The Crime Branch has registered a case against the three accused under the NDPS Act. Police seized four vehicles too,” Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 5 said on Friday, reported ANI.

“The crime branch officials had received a tip-off that two persons were coming to Mumbai to deliver ganja. Based on the information, a trap was laid and the accused duo was arrested and their vehicle was seized,” an official said, reported PTI.

As per the information provided by them during their interrogation, the police arrested one more accused from Jalgaon. He is the main supplier of the banned drug, he added, reported PTI.

The accused arrested in Mumbai were identified as Gopal Natekar and Sharad Sukhlal Patil, while their accomplice from Jalgaon is Sunil Mohite, the official said, adding that a total of 374 kilograms of ganja was recovered from both the places, reported PTI.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered and further investigation is underway.

Earlier, the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a foreign national in the Juhu area allegedly with MDMA (Methylenedioxy methamphetamine) worth Rs 3.37 crore, an official said on Friday, reported ANI.

He was held on Thursday near a five-star hotel on Juhu Tara Road.

“Egve John was arrested with MDMA worth Rs 3.37 crore, while his associate is on the run. While two kilograms of the drug was found on him at the time of arrest, another 250 grams was seized from his associate`s home in Nalasopara in neighbouring Palghar district,” the ATS official said, reported ANI.

A probe has revealed the accused is a foreigner but has destroyed his passport to hide nationality and criminal antecedents, the official said, reported PTI.

A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered and further probe into the peddling network is underway, he added, reported PTI.
