Maharashtra: Explosion reported at scrap godown in Pune

An explosion occurred at a scrap godown in the Kudal Wadi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Maharashtra. The incident, which took place on Saturday, prompted the deployment of 10 fire tenders by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Fire Department to contain the resulting fire, reported ANI.

According to the news agency ANI, fortunately, the fire was successfully brought under control by the authorities. However, further investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, and more details are awaited.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a massive fire broke out in Mumbai`s Govandi district early Saturday morning, destroying around 15 commercial units and several dwellings. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The fire broke out in the Baiganwadi neighbourhood of Govandi`s Adarsh Nagar.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) claimed that the fire department received a call at 3:55 a.m., requiring an instant response. Firefighters battled the fire, which damaged electrical cables, plastic materials, household objects, timber planks, and furniture, among other things, a report added.

An agency report further stated that the specific cause of the fire is yet to be discovered, but preliminary investigations are continuing. Emergency services, including water tankers and ambulances, were deployed to the location to assist with firefighting.

In another incident earlier this month, a large fire broke out in an electric shop in Mumbai`s Dhobi Talao neighbourhood. While no injuries were reported, seven fire trucks were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.

Previously, a fire destroyed over 150 vehicles kept at a junkyard in suburban Bandra, but no injuries were reported, according to a report. The event took at around 6:30 pm behind Teacher`s Colony, near Shamshan Bhumi, on Bandra Service Road.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation`s Mumbai Fire Brigade promptly responded to the situation and began firefighting operations. The fire, classified as a Level 1 burn, mostly hit an area containing 100-150 scrap vehicles, which covered around 1000 square feet.

Efforts to combat the flames entailed the deployment of a single hose line, which eventually brought the situation under control. Coordination between the BMC`s Mumbai Fire Brigade and the local police agency was critical in confining the fire and preventing it from spreading to surrounding regions.
