Kolkata cops chase down two techies with IS links, arrest them | India News

KOLKATA/HOWRAH: The special task force (STF) of Kolkata police has arrested two tech graduates from Howrah with alleged links to the Islamic State terror outfit, who were planning terror attacks in various parts of the country, report Dwaipayan Ghosh & Rupak Banerjee.
The arrest of the duo — Md Saddam alias Saddam Mullick alias Abdul Mullick and Sayeed Ahmed (30) — had foiled “possible planned attacks”, joint CP (STF), Solomon V Nesakumar, said. While Saddam has done MTech, Sayeed, too, is an IT engineer and is proficient with technology and the use of dark web, sleuths claimed.
According to STF sources, the accused, who were on a two-wheeler, were chased down and arrested in a dramatic fashion around 4.30pm on Friday. They were produced in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for 12 days.
Soloman said the accused indoctrinated people by propagating the terror ideology and hatred in society. “To fulfil their intention of waging a war against the state, they were in the process of recruiting youths, collecting arms and explosives and raising funds,” he said. The two recently travelled to the western and north-western parts of India to carry out recruitments and raise funds.
