In the interests of sustainability and climate change awareness, Ismaili CIVIC India partnered with the Indian Coast Guard for Coastal Cleanup Drive, held on occasion of the Indian Coast Guard’s 48th raising day earlier this week.
Popular actress, UN Environmental Goodwill Ambassador & United Nations Secretary-General Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals, Dia Mirza also joined the clean up drive. Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region West was also present at the event.
Around 250 volunteers from the Ismaili CIVIC India participated in the grand Coastal Cleanup drive in Mumbai. These comprised of uniformed volunteers from the Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for India and National Scouting Guiding team, who joined hands with the stalwarts of the Coast Guard and others in conducting this activity.
“As part of the commemoration of the its 48th raising day, the Indian Coast Guard Region (West) demonstrated unwavering environmental commitment by organizing a Special Coastal Cleanup Drive at Juhu Beach on 20th January 2024. The initiative exemplified their dedication towards maritime security and ecological preservation, uniting esteemed guests, ICG officers & men, and volunteers to actively participate in cleaning the coastal regions under their watch,” Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region West said.
“Care for our planet is the responsibility of every individual, and environmental sustainablility becomes achievable when we all work together to make a difference. The Ismaili community believes in being a part of the solution in protecting our planet. We are delighted to join hands with the Indian Coast Guard for this event and look forward to supporting more such endeavors in future.” said Sophia Premjee, Communications Co-ordinator, Ismaili Council for India.
“Around 250 young Ismaili CIVIC volunteers have come forward to participate enthusiastically in the coastal cleanup activity this morning, exemplifying values of voluntary service, giving back and responsible citizenship”, she further added.
Apart from the Ismaili CIVIC India and the Indian Coast Guard, the activity was conducted in partnership Carter Cleanup, an environmental conservation organisation. There were arrangements made at the venue for medical emergencies and crowd control.

On the invite from various government agencies, Ismaili CIVIC teams also support diverse festival-related events with crowd control and traffic management duties. Our teams have also undertaken clean drinking water distribution initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
