FIR against 100 BJP leaders over ‘violent protest’ in Raipur | India News

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh police have filed an FIR against over 100 BJP leaders and workers for injuries caused to five police personnel and damage to public property during a violent protest at Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) headquarters on December 29.
Among those injured is a DSP, a woman officer who suffered a cut in the neck. Around 5,000 opposition BJP workers, led by senior leaders Brijmohan Agrawal, MP Sunil Soni and Rajesh Munat, had staged the protest, accusing the RMC of corruption and failure to provide Raipur residents with basic civic amenities. The BJP counted 700 problems they detected during a survey in all 70 wards of RMC and submitted a memorandum to the authorities. The protest ended in fisticuffs, with police and BJP accusing each other of assault.
Police said that BJP protesters attacked cops, misbehaved with policewomen, and pulled the stars on officer’ epaulettes. RMC Zone-4 commissioner Vinay Mishra complained to the police that the BJP workers vandalized the corporation headquarters and damaged government property.
Mishra’s complaint alleges that BJP leaders and workers climbed the iron grille and gates to reach the balcony of the RMC office. When police stopped them, they allegedly abused and attacked the cops.
Police constable suffered an injury near his ear, woman constable was hit on the eyes by a ball of wet clay, and another woman cop was assaulted, says the complaint.
