Andrii Kostin, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, has thanked Europol for the establishment of the task force to support the investigation of war crimes in Ukraine, which will assist with open source intelligence (OSINT).

Details: As the Prosecutor General said, the creation of the OSINT group is “another significant milestone” in the cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation.

Background:

  • On 21 November, Europol announced the creation of a task force to assist in the investigation of Russian crimes in Ukraine.
  • This group aims to help identify suspects and their involvement in war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of genocide committed in Ukraine by collecting and analysing open source intelligence.
  • 14 countries joined the group: Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Norway, the UK and the US.
  • Last month, Europol officially joined the joint investigative team investigating international crimes committed in Ukraine.
