Congress MLA dismisses reports of leaving the party

Congress leader and MLA Amin Patel called the reports of him leaving the Congress Party “false and baseless”, saying that he is firmly committed to the grand old party.

“My dear supporters and well-wishers. There are rumours circulating about my departure from the Congress Party. I want to clarify that these claims are false and baseless. I am firmly committed to the Congress Party. Thank you for your support today and always!” Patel posted on X.

Amin Patel is a three-term member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Mumbadevi Constituency of Mumbai.

On Monday, Leader Of Opposition of Maharashtra State Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar also clarified that he is not exiting from Congress. “The resignation of Ashok Chavan from Congress is shocking and its not known why suddenly he took this decision. “I am working with Chavan since 2007, because of which there are rumours that I am too leaving the party. But it is not true”, he said.

While, Congress leader and MLA from Malad, Mumbai, Aslam Shaikh also clarified on Monday that he is with the Congress. I want to clarify that I am not leaving the Congress Party. I urge the media to refrain from spreading false news about my shift to any other party. Let`s maintain decorum and avoid creating unnecessary confusion”, he posted on X.

Meanwhile, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who exited Congress on Monday, announced that he is joining Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). “Today is the beginning of a new political career of my life,” Chavan said on Tuesday.

His exit is the third blow to Congress party in succession as senior leaders Baba Siddique and Milind Deora also quit the party days ago. Chavan, son of former CM Shankarrao Chavan, said that his choice to depart from the grand old party was independent and did not specify the reasons behind his exit.  Ashok Chavan hails from Nanded district in Marathwada region.

He was also the state Congress chief during 2014-19.
