Child helpline to be integrated with 112 emergency response system | India News

NEW DELHI: The ministry of women and child development is gearing up to integrate child helpline (1098) with the Emergency Response Support System (112) and build linkages with district child protection units.
While the roadmap on how the existing Childline will be integrated with 112 is still awaited, the ministry on Monday wrote to states to identify nodal officers and provide space for setting up control rooms where the helplines for women and children may be co-located.
The letter to principal secretaries of the departments of women and child development and social justice in states, stated that as per the ‘Mission Vatsalya‘ scheme, the WCD ministry in partnership with states and districts will execute a 24×7 helpline service for children as defined under the Juvenile Justice Act. The child helpline will be run in coordination with states and district functionaries and integrated with the ERSS-112 helpline of the home ministry.
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) will be steering the integration of child helpline (1098) with ERSS-112 and the linkages. The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are being prepared and would be shared with states and districts once the infrastructure is in place.
