CM Eknath Shinde says, `320-acre central park in the works`

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, while visiting the Coastal Road on Thursday, announced that the city would get its first central park, which will span 320 acres. The state government has decided to set up the park on 120 acres of Mahalaxmi racecourse land as well as 200 acres of land reclaimed for the Coastal Road.

Speaking to the media during his visit, Shinde said, the southbound section of the Coastal Road was ready and it would be opened to the public soon. “Another part of the project is 90 per cent complete,” he said. “The BMC has decided to develop a park on 200 acres of land reclaimed for the project. This will be added to 120 acres of racecourse land,” Shinde added.

He was accompanied by Deepak Kesarkar, school education and guardian minister, Mumbai City; Mangal Prabhat Lodha, skill development and guardian minister, Mumbai Suburban and civic chief I S Chahal. Shinde took a ride from Worli to Marine Drive via the Coastal Road.

Shinde also reviewed the concreting of roads at Worli, Dadar and Lower Parel and directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration to finish the work before the arrival of the monsoon. He also interacted with residents.

Zero prescription policy

The chief minister also visited the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana at Worli and assured people they would get medical treatment near their residences. The BMC will start a prescription policy in April, giving free medical treatment to patients on their doorstep.
