NEW DELHI: The railways will roll out the first hydrogen-powered train on its narrow gauge heritage routes by December 2023 as a part of its “green train” initiative, said railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday.
Railways has eight heritage routes, which primarily run on diesel: Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Matheran Hill Railway, Kangra Valley, Bilmora Waghai and Marwar-Devgarh Madriya. All are narrow gauge.
